5 things my parents taught me Pt. 1

A while ago, I was eating breakfast and Daddy sat down to eat with me. We were talking and he ended up asking me to make a list of 5 things that he and Mommy had taught me. Well, I thought for a few weeks and tried to think of 5 big things that they had taught me. There are so many things that I have learned from them that it was hard. I thought, well they've taught me to read, to be polite, to manage my time and money, etc. But I knew that there were bigger things as well. Eventually, I narrowed it down to the following list.

1. Firstly, my parents taught me to love the Lord. I'm not sure how it is possible to actually teach someone to love but my parents have done it. They are living examples of people who love the Lord and I am blessed to  have them pass it down to me. They are my spiritual role models. 

2. Next, my parents have taught me to remember who I am. Ever since we were little, they would always tell us, "remember who you are". Now, I see where that has taken me. It was not telling us to represent the family well, but it was telling us that whatever circumstance we are in, to stay true to who we are. My parents have instilled in me the desire to be the same wherever I go and not to change with my surroundings.

3. My parents have also taught me to remember who I represent. They have shown me that I not only represent my earthly family but my Heavenly Father as well. As one of His ambassadors, my job is to glorify Him wherever I go. Mommy and Daddy have shown me that this is one of the most important things in life.

4. Number four is to make wise decisions. This one is a little different. By walking me through important decisions as I get older and showing me how they made them when I was younger, my parents taught me to make decisions by seeking guidance, looking at all of the facts and most importantly, listening to the Lord.
5. Lastly, my parents have taught me to be a leader. Now, this is not the kind of leader you might think of. Mommy and Daddy have shown me that in order to be a leader, you must be a servant. They have modeled this in their own lives and I aspire to be like them.

Over the next few months I will go into each of these five things in more detail. It will be a sort of blog series and I might even throw in a few posts written by Daddy himself.
